The Abbey of Thiron-Gardais was the mother-abbey of one of the largest monastic orders in the Middle Ages, the Order of Tiron. The relaxed atmosphere of this bastion of medieval spirituality, with its different themed gardens and the tithe barn, is simply remarkable: it is an unmissable site in the Perche region.

Ecomuseum of Perche

The Ecomuseum of Perche, situated in the remarkable setting of the old Priory, has the aim of spreading, remembering and safeguarding the geographical, historical and ethnological heritage of the region.

The Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions offers a magnificent ethnological view of the Perche area, exploring agriculture, period clothing, the Percheron horse, the forests, the wooded countryside and local craftsmanship. It allows you to understand and appreciate the rural world from the 19th century to the 1960s.

Park of the Château de la Ferté-Vidame

Experience the excessive splendour of the Age of Enlightenment! This area offers over sixty hectares of French-style gardens, in which are the relics of one of the region’s most popular sites. It was in this place full of history that Saint-Simon isolated himself to write most of his memoirs.

Château-Museum Saint Jean

Overlooking an immense horizon of undulating plains, as Victor Hugo so eloquently put it, the château houses both a permanent exhibition dedicated to 19th century life in the region as well as highly regarded temporary exhibitions on ancient or contemporary art.

The Tomb of the Duke of Sully, the three churches in the town, among which is the Notre Dame and its ‘Nativity Group’, and the older districts of the town with their ancient dwellings, make up the other jewels of the town.

Saint-Hilaire Church

A religious building dating from the 11th century, renovated and extended in the Renaissance. The largest parish church in Nogent-le-Rotrou, built in the 11th century, its extension began in the 15th century and ended in the 16th century. A beautiful bell tower topped by a lantern in a decorated gallery.
